INTERPIPE STEEL has produced 500 thousand tons of steel

The state-of-the-art innovative INTERPIPE STEEL mill has melted the 500-thousandth ton of steel. The mill gradually increases its production capacities, having reached the monthly production rate in the amount of approximately 85 thousand tons of steel round billets in December.

“The first heat at INTERPIPE STEEL was conducted on January 17 last year. Over this period of almost a year we have produced half a million tons of steel. Production volumes of the mill rise month after month. We are consistently and steadily moving to reach the designed capacity”, – Gennadiy Yesaulov, Interpipe Steel Director, has commented.

The mill plans to need a twice shorter period of time to produce the next half a million tons of steel.

“INTERPIPE STEEL metallurgists have proved to be a highly-skilled and professional team, working as a single mechanism. The have mastered new equipment and technological processes. And they are ready to ensure the planned production and economic parameters of work of the new mill”, – Andrea Michielan, Interpipe Steel Operational Manager, has stated.

The designed capacity of INTERPIPE STEEL is 1 million and 320 thousand tons of steel a year. The mill plans to reach the monthly level of this rate in 2013, while the yearly level – in 2014.

INTERPIPE STEEL is the first metallurgical plant, built in Ukraine from the scratch for almost half a century. Considering its level of technologies, labor conditions, and environmental protection standards, it obviously represents a new phase in the industry development. Total volume of investments has amounted to 700 million US dollars.

INTERPIPE STEEL is the key project for INTERPIPE, designed to provide the Company’s pipe and wheel production with its own steel billets. When the mill reaches its designed capacity rate in 2014, the self-sufficiency in billets for INTERPIPE seamless pipes' production will rise to 90 %. The production capacity of the new mill will be 1.320 million tons a year.

The average age of the new mill employees is 31 years. Approximately 76% of INTERPIPE STEEL employees have a university degree. For some professions the competition rate in the employment process has been 10 persons per job. More than a half of the employees have undergone additional training abroad.
