The company has been working on construction of the $700m steelworks since 2007. Once completed and reached its nameplate capacity some time in 2013, it will supply 90% of the billet and bloom required for the company’s seamless pipe and wheel production. This may be raised to 100% in a subsequent expansion, the spokesman adds.
Interpipe produced 185,000t of welded and 665,000t of seamless pipe last year – 850,000t in total, and plans to produce 990,000t of pipes this year, it says. Interpipe is also one of the largest railway wheels producers in the world, with 190,000t forecasted to be produced this year. 2011 revenues are expected at $1.9bn, the company says.
